Caveat: Hey, techbro linuxguy, I understand the limited "need" for cleaner programs. I also know about BleachBit. I'm just old, and crusty, and set in my ways sometimes... and I just want the option to use CCleaner if I feel like it. Thanks for being chill.

So, ever run into the Windows Program Compatibility Assistant being not very assistive?

CCleaner version Five-Point-Something (edit, I believe I was running
5.24.x
, the first version under the new owners...of which I was ignorant) has been running just fine in Windows 10 for a long time. Then I made the dummy move of upgrading it, not knowing about the buyout, not realizing what I was doing... big mistake.

After a few weeks of this AWFUL UPDATE to CCleaner Seven-Point-Whatever, an aggressive and obnoxious piece of bloated adware, I attempted to reinstall CCleaner.

First of all... and I can't prove this is what happened... but... I tend to keep EVERYTHING. I have a 12 TB (slow) RAID drive that I just kinda keep everything on... for years, and years, and years. That includes installers. I also keep a bunch of "this is the stuff I install on every PC" on an external (which was plugged in, and was affected). Now, I don't keep everything perfectly organized, but I do have a folder where there used to be several older CCleaner installers... and they're gone. Completely gone, and the only answer I could think of was, "these mofos actually had the gall to delete ALL the old versions off my PC."

notice no CCSetup or CCleaner-Install, etc.???

No problem. Last version before the buyout was
5.32.6129
. I'll just go find that download somewhere. I found it 3x without even having to visit the wayback machine.

ccsetup532.exe | 9520 KB

CCleaner_v5.32.6129.exe | 9520 KB

ccleaner-5.32.0.6129.0-installer_1-ID5z1.exe | 5353 KB

and bonus
5.14.5493.exe | 6669 KB
(hella nice) from OldVersion site.

Two of them have identical file sizes, and actually look legit for a few reasons (e.g., they look like the one from OldVersion, which I consider a pretty trustworthy site).

But, I couldn't run *any* of them.

The PCA was treating me like a child and not allowing me to run the software I'd been running (just fine, thank you) before. I'm guessing that I somehow had a benefit of legacy, the software wasn't going to throw a rod thru the oil pan until I upgraded?

The smaller one was... different. Different icon, too small. I was suspicious of it. After scans and peeking at it, I tried it... and, surprisingly, it worked! It had a couple gross "no, thanks, please do not download McAfee onto my PC" things to get thru (which was true to form for later-Piriform)... but, after that, it actually downloaded the correct version from a remote server. Now, in my Downloads directory, was
ccleaner-5.32.0.6129.0-installer.exe | 9520 KB

Fantastic! But, wait...

FAILURE: PCA SAID NO.

So, I ran
services.msc
and disabled the damn PCA. In reply, the computer seemed to say, "HA! You thought it'd be THAT EASY? What is this, Windows 3.98seXP? HA! YOU FOOL! No dice! THIS IS A MAC NOW!"

I had no choice. I did the thing. You know. Looking up the problem, seeing a bunch of posts from the helpless and hopeless... (or, sometimes, it's just like 3 people that painstakingly documented the exact problem you're having but nobody replied and they disappeared off the internet and you never found out if they solved it)... and, hey.... a clue. This Anon was nice enough to come back and tell us how he solved it: the tips he found on winhelp.co -- a dead site, but we got the archive.

So. I renamed the file. Yep. I named it
titycaca.exe
and it fuckin' ran.

It installed!

Went to run program. PCA window on the installed file now, too! 😡

Oh, glory be, I'm going to chunk this mofo out the literal windows!

So, I renamed the program
bbleaner64.exe
-- didn't work... but, we're in the same directory... so... I renamed the directory to
/BBleaner/
too...

It works!

Like, are you kidding me? That was so simple, yet obnoxious, I feel absolutely like Penn Jillette's character in 1996's HACKERS (not a good feeling).

Oh, boy, am I really tired of Windows' bullshit, and I'm becoming very comfortable with being a multiple OS household. I don't see me becoming a Windows 11 main. I just can't do it. I will eventually have to have it on something for some programs... but, after Windows 10 dies, I'm going to be a Linux/BSD/Whatever main... it's all just become so unbearably enshittified.

one thing i've been working on lately... which is really silly... i was working on some updates to the Tru Blood item(s) for The Sims 2 (and did not finish, yet), but it caused another project to get activated...

yeah, so... i've been applying my "contextual subtitling" system to various (vampire) shows, as i watch them. some Dark Shadows, some Buffy, and a lot of True Blood. not sure if those are going to be released for the public anytime soon... since they're not really all done, and they're not all in order...

it would be neat to do my "year of Dark Shadows" idea wherein i add some polish to the show (especially the sound), captions, etc. for the first 365 episodes (a major plot shift happens right after that, so it's a great breaking-point).

Buffy/Angel would be a major project... even if I only did Buffy... I might do all of Season One and see how i feel? Buffyspeak gets absolutely butchered by subtitle/caption transcriptionists, frequently, and I also recognize it would be such a goddamn chore to edit back in.

also, i can only watch so much Buffyverse in a row before i get what i call a Buffyburn,™©® -- which is basically me being an emotionally fragile babby after like 4-6 episodes in a row, especially during certain arcs.

working on the TS2 items is what caused me to rewatch the first season of True Blood, and goddammit the subtitles were so lacking, to be honest, that it caused me to breakdown and do it myself... the lack of HOH cues, the lack of non-English languages, etc... like, damn. i'm literally downloading a bunch of other languages to figure out some of those scenes (Swedish, Spanish, Arabic, etc.)

sound does a LOT for that show... there's a LOT of audio cues... and, I'm debating how many of them need insertion. like... vampire zooming, flashbacks, telepathy... all indicated with sound. those are three i haven't added to episodes, per se, but i'm tempted. i've handled telepathy manually (e.g.,
[THINKING]
) thus far, and flashbacks do have visual cues... but, the zoomies... i mean... i'm not winning that argument with myself thus far.

also... and i might be crazy for this, but i've started adding things that are extremely important audio cues for the show that usually also have visual cues (e.g.,
[FANGS CLICK]
). lots of hissing and growling that never seem to have a cue in any of the other subs...

i've gotten pretty competent with SubtitleEdit and Aegisub... and I've learned more about MKV packages than I expected to...

and i think i'm about to reach the part of the show that i think jumped the shark (no spoilers, but it was season 5, what i call "the capri sun scene" iykyk). no promises i can do the last two seasons... but, i can probably "promise" (that i want to do) the first four.

okay, and now the anti-climax... 🧛‍♂️💬

kthxbai 👋

long story short... it was a blessing to live alone for 3+ years in the same place... but, after a sudden doubling of rent (no warning), my disabled ass had to move. i found a place immediately, but due to bureaucracy (way beyond my control) i couldn't move in for 6 months.

that was 6 months, with my service dog (Lenny), couch-surfing... fucking my already tight budget (because being unhoused is actually more expensive). but... great news... we've been in a place for a few months. 🎉 and we have very reliable (tho not gas-efficient) transport, again!

but... didn't walk away unscathed. family tension, strained support systems, crazy debt. a cool new scar on my right brow, from a spider bite that i thought was gonna make my face rot off. almost everything's still in storage, and i don't even have home internet yet...

but, i'm happier... and even tho i don't live in places that most people would consider "safe" -- i am waaay safer now. and Lenny can finally relax. 😌

i have stories... from the 3 years, and the 6 months, but i'm not ready yet. they'll come with time... they range from the asinine, to the absurd, and one that's near-unbelievable... but, funny enough, comes with the most proof.

ok, that's enough for now. i'm about to make another post about what i've been doing (without internet), so check that out too. more ts2 stuff coming soon too.

(idk i've barely played it). it was converted by nanashi, and you should check out their other stuff too! there's some real gems. anyway, i found this in the background in SissySims' game. i'd already worked on the other two atms, and wanted to give this one my new screens and all that.

ABOUT / HISTORY

this item is basically why i can do anything resembling content creation or modding right now. a couple/few years ago i was determined to get NetMicro's ATM mesh (which was already functional as a ticket machine) to somehow work on Monique's arcade-lookin' machine. i had to do it myself. this item is why i installed blender. 😂😠😭

FIX LIST

this mesh historically presents backwards, which i didn't want to live with.

mesh's 2 screens (main + hand-level touchscreen), erroneously included the lamp and overhead sign as part of the display. fixed that.

english textures replaced with simlish.

now visible in hood view (and it looks soooo good imho!) 👩‍🍳🤏💋

bright screen fix + custom atm ui graphics

original guid. 😤

nods to prah for attempting this conversion before me (and a big fat side-eye for the contents of the readme.txt), but i didn't use their work... i tried. didn't work out.

however as a tribute to them i made sure to internally name things "atm machine" where i could. 💅

NetMicro's mesh has *never* been flush against the wall. i didn't change that, i just rotated it 180º to face correctly. i personally prefer to use a power cable add-on with the atm. these from mts2 lines up perfectly, and i use them.

COLORWAYS

NetMicro included a base & a recolor.

i played mix-match for the best visual results (imo).

item is recolorable on two levels: shell and atm surface.

the default colorations are charcoal.

lighter greys as an alt built into the object.

i made a couple recolors, too. nothing impressive, just a little variety.

(two duets of warm vs cool tones).

PSDs included, feel free to make your own styles!

I made some god awful recolors for it, a long time ago, and the pieces are still in there still. 👀

ABOUT / HISTORY

the first ATM object in the game might have been from RetailSims (pre-OFB business items). they had a recolor of the arcade machine. from monique's notes, i think she just used it as a visual base when she decided to make a different version of her hacked computer as an atm. (it requires the same banking/billing globals, it's just missing a bunch of pie menus that wouldn't make sense at an atm).

this alone opens up the idea of a functional bank lot*, with a few ATMs for everyone (and hacked computer in the bank manager's office or something if you wanna get shmancy). there was a lot of banking cc/mods made in the super early days, and a lot of it needs upgrading/revisiting... so this can be expanded in function with time.

*(no shade to other bank systems before this, i'll get into that in the future)

i've had plenty of happy rounds of Sims 2 with this arcade-looking atm in my lots. ofc they're great on community lots (including hotels)... but mainstays for dorms and apartments/flophouses, too! sometimes you just don't wanna give every single character a hacked computer, for whatever reason, while still giving them account access.

but, even the biggest fans of monique's hacked computer don't really play with the atm much (or the other related accessories, AHEM AHEM). i have a couple hypothesis as to why, but i think a lot of it comes down to looks.

i've even seen some creators be pretty shitty about this object, and i think they need to chill. yeah, frankly, i do get pretty defensive of this object. it was made 20 years ago, man! i love it. and, yeah, i can admit... it's a little rough. i always used michelle's recolors, and kept it away from (other?) arcade cabinets ...just to keep the illusion.

FIX LIST

all that being said, i've used it for too long. familiarity breeds contempt, if it ain't new it's through, et al. so, it has some problems that really still bum me out. look, an arcade cabinet's one thing... but:

bright screen fix + custom atm ui graphics. (even when not actively in use)

visible in hood view (including whatever recolor)

removed joystick & arcade buttons from the mesh

many changes to the textures

all english replaced with simlish

fresh new credit card logos panels

new keypads that are correctly oriented

added security cam lens (replacing the arcade's speaker)

recolors to match outdoor trashcans, payphone, etc. (many of these are based on the michelle's recolors. you can keep hers too if you want, but these are my personal replacements for that set)

grunge recolors (hchangeri+michelle) w/ graffiti to match retro vibe

Some in-game images were captured before the textures were finalized, but they're still largely accurate. Many variants have updated keypads, and other fixes. See the textures in the last image the most accurate overview.

but wait, there's more...

yeah, so, i made some recolors too. ofc. wndy26's parking signs (simlish recolors, x5) became decals for our spots. then i decided some old-fashioned writing on the spots could be the ticket, so we got some of that going on, too (x5). that's 10 recolors of the parking spots themselves... these are all... okay. 🤷‍♀️

...then i goofed around and made 2 bright blue recolors of the solid line and the dotted line. these are to match some parking floor tiles i found, once... i was mostly just experimenting, and i understand if they're not your bag. [update: i made 2 lighter blue ones too, see screenshots below @ the wndy26 items]

installation

typical install, all this goes in your downloads folder... however, the retex file REPLACES mog's original package (safely assuming you already have it). i know it's MUCH SMALLER, but that's bc it's compressorized (literally took it down 90%)!*** a lot of the time i might just switch out the GUID, but this item has like 22 OBJDs!* it's a complicated piece of CC! (editor's note: famous last words. this happened with the food stand template lol)

***the recolors are compressorized, but every time i tried to do anything like compress (or even "fix integrity") on this item -- it would break, like, anywhere from reverting to (the original item from which it was cloned i guess?) log rollers ??? ... or just making me Crash-to-Desktop. SO, AS A RESULT, THE OG ITEM ISN'T COMPRESSED. lol.

all of the recolors are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL of course, but they're also compressorized and pretty dang small... so you can get away with snatching them all up and you'll still have a smaller file size than the original stand-alone!

bonus! wndy26 items!

i didn't wanna do a separate thing for this... i took wndy26's parking signs, removed the english versions, and replaced them with simlish recolors. if that's of interest to you, it's there too.

also, that evil standard parking block, i fought so much with this thing... tried a bunch of different things to improve it, and boy did it not work lol. so, i went back to the original (+phaenoh's additions) and did a little reskinning, shadow removal (doesn't make sense on this object, and the original shadows were busted), and a bunch of recolors in the Maxis trashcan/phone colors (to match the ATM release).

      ABOUT

so, i attempted to recolor the helipad a while back. it bugs me that it's just a big 'H' -- and, yeah, sure, that might be an internationally understood symbol irl... but, it bugged me!i was tempted to slap a big 'Hoh' on it at one point, but decided against it. too similar, to the point of pointlessness.

so, i made a maxis-matchy 'grunge' one (the default texture is very grungy!); then attempted a clean tarmac; and last came symbol experimentation... from just removing the H, a couple different propeller configs, to a literal ...pictograph? (it's an emoji-like picture of a helicopter idk what else to call it.)

there are two variations made with transparent backgrounds. they're partially transparent (50% opacity), and *slightly* blurrier (w/ a fuzzy walkway friend, too!). the intent there is for them to seem temporary (like chalk on a football field). this might be used to simulate things like militarized zones, political events, outdoor music festivals, on-location film sets, and other places where an impermanent helipad might be established.

guess the first pass was nov of '24. anyway, it's the 31st january of 2026. found my old work, and then spent most of the night redoing everything. it's not perfect, and ofc there's an absurd number of variations i could do, but i forced myself to stop at a dozen. i'm attaching the cleaned up PSD so if you want to make more from these pieces, have at it!

all the `*.package` files are compressorized BUT this is a bigger texture in the game, period, so if you're conservative about sizes or whatever... just keep the ones you want.
